What
steps do I need to take to become a certified SCUBA diver?
To become a PADI Certified Open Water Diver, the following three steps are required;
1) Academic - Here you’ll learn the basics of dive theory, equipment and safety.
2) Confined water - Next, you’ll head to our heated, indoor pool to start the confined water training. This is where the real fun starts! While in the pool, you’ll learn the basic skills of diving to make you comfortable and confident before going to the open water phase of training.
3) Open water dives - The final phase is the open water checkout dives. Here you’ll demonstrate what you mastered in our pool and begin exploring the underwater world.
Where is the class and pool
work done?
All academic and confined water training is done onsite. We have our own classroom,
complete with digital projector and fresh coffee; downstairs is our heated indoor
pool with showers and lockers for your convenience. Just bring a bathing suit
& towel!
Where are the Open Water Dives
done?
That depends on what time of year you plan on doing your open water dives. During
the winter months (September through May) we go to the Homestead Crater in Heber
City, Utah. The Crater is a perfect place to do the winter Open Water Dives
due to its water temperature of 96 degrees! There are a variety of activities
available other than diving due to its close proximity to Park City and Sundance,
Utah.
The summer months (June through August) we do our dives locally, usually at the Aurora reservoir or Wellington Lake. It’s a fun weekend starting at 8:00 am each day and finishing up around 2:00 pm with a beach BBQ!
Can I do my class and pool
sessions here and my open water dives in the tropics while on vacation?
Absolutely! All that’s required is a Referral Kit from us and you’re
ready to enjoy your dives and the tropical sun at the same time. In most destinations,
we can even book your Open Water Dives with a reputable PADI dive facility.
How long does this process
take?
We can get you certified in as little as two weekends. Our weekend classes are
designed for those with limited free time. However, you can also get certified
in a more leisurely pace with our extended weekday format courses. Both formats
are followed by the Open Water Dives conducted over one weekend.
How old do you have to be
to become a certified diver?
The minimum age is 10 years old, however some restrictions do apply to divers
under the age of 15 for safety reasons
How much does it cost?
If you plan to do all three steps with us, we have a package price ranging from
$374.95 to $424.95. Included is:
- Academic and confined water training.
- Student kit (Open Water manual, DVD or VHS, dive tables, log pages)
- PADI certification processing fee ($27.50).
- Open water dives at Homestead Crater ($424.95) or locally ($374.95)
If you’re planning on doing your Open Water Dives while on vacation, the
class & pool fee is $190. The student kit is required (Open Water manual,
DVD or VHS, dive tables & log pages) for $82.45, and the Referral Kit (including
the PADI certification fee) for $27.50.
Is there a discount for 2
or more students?
Providing the students can study the videos together, the cost of the student
kit decreases by $29.50/person, as the additional students do not need to purchase
the videos or DVD.
Is the use of SCUBA gear included
in these prices?
The use of mask, fins, snorkel, buoyancy compensator, regulator, gauges, tanks
and weights are included in the cost for all pool work. Gear is available for
rent for your open water dives ($25/day). Mask fins and snorkel are also available
to rent ($6/day), however we highly recommend owning these three items for a
few reasons: First, you can save 10% to 30% on our discounted student packages.
Secondly, mask, fins, and snorkel are your most personal gear, and it’s
a good idea to train in them. Finally, if the gear is purchased during class,
you can try everything out in the pool, any problems can be fixed with an easy
exchange to get you gear that works for you.
I want to buy
some gear, why shouldn't I buy online?
We get this question a lot. And while the bottom line may be less expensive
than what we can match, keep in mind the services we offer that an online retailer
can't; we will spend as much time as it takes to find gear that works well while
keeping you safe. We offer our pool to try the gear out during classes, and
will exchange the items with no questions asked in time for your next pool session,
how many online retailers can offer that? Finally, here's
an interesting warning we found on a leading online retailers site. If you have
any further questions that we can answer, please don't hesitate to ask.
How long is my
certification good for?
Once certified, you’re certified for life! For safety reasons, we do recommend
a Scuba Review course if it’s
been more than a year or two since your last dive.
Do you have a
class schedule available?
Absolutely, simply click here.
How do I register
for one of your classes?
It’s simple, just pick a date and give us a call (303-988-6725 or toll
free 1-888-548-DIVE). We’ll need to collect a deposit of $150 and you’re
registered! If you don’t know which date will work for you, that’s
fine, we can still register you with the above deposit then pick a date at your
leisure. There is a medical questionnaire to fill out as well as some reading
and video viewing before your first class.
