Assistant Instructor

The PADI Assistant Instructor course is a program designed to provide qualified PADI Divemasters with additional training as instructional assistants. Using the background established during the candidate's Divemaster training, the Assistant Instructor course seeks to build upon this preliminary foundation. During his experience in the course, the candidate will learn, through practical application and hands-on experience, how some of the most important aspects of PADI programs function. The PADI Assistant Instructor Course is also a great preparatory course for the PADI Instructor Development Course.

Prerequisites:

To qualify for the PADI Assistant Instructor course, an individual must:
  • Be 18 Years of age or older
  • Be certified as a PADI Divemaster.
  • Have a minimum of 60 logged dives
  • Submit an approved medical exam form, for diving, signed by a physician

Performance Requirements:

To be certified as a PADI Assistant Instructor, an individual must meet the following performance requirements:

  1. Attend all academic training sessions
  2. Complete and review for mastery the ten Module Two independent study reading assignments and Knowledge reviews.
  3. Score a 3.5 or higher on at least one open water teaching presentation during Module Three - Practical Application.
  4. Demonstrate acceptable performance on the Assistant Instructor Standards Exam by scoring 100 percent initially or scoring 75 percent or higher and having missed items reviewed until mastery is achieved.

Course Structure:

17.5 hours class and pool. Intern with a PADI Open Water Instructor for:

  • An entire Open Water Class
  • An entire Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty
  • And an entire Advanced or Rescue Class

For those of you who are planning to take the IDC course and become an Open Water Scuba instructor, the PADI Assistant Instructor course in an excellent means of preparing you to meet that goal. You will have first hand experience in teaching and working with students at different levels and it will allow you to accept the challenge, fun and rewards of working in this profession. AIl graduates are qualified to earn income by:

  1. Teaching academic elaboration for any PADI Diver Course under the supervision of a PADI Instructor
  2. Teaching and certifying PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty
  3. Independently conducting the Discover Scuba experience
  4. Teaching Medic First Aid after completion of a Medic First Aid Instructor Course
  5. Independently teaching Snorkeling
  6. Independently teaching Scuba Review
