Diver Propulsion Vehicle Specialty

Ever watch James Bond in the movies Thunderball, flying along on his underwater "scooter"? How about watching Jacques Cousteau's crew skimming along just above the reef? Ever wonder if you could do that? Well, Underwater Phantaseas can make it happen. And it's just as fun as it looks (and easy)!

We are training a few divers to become Diver Propulsion Vehicle Pilots (DPVs, also know as scooters). A couple of hours in the class room will be spent learning how to set up, safely operate, and maintain the DPV, and then an hour with one in the pool, learning the basics. Once you're ready, you'll do a dive in the Aurora Reservoir, "flying" through the water with an Underwater Phantaseas instructor, then "solo" on a second dive. You'll find out just how quickly you can get to and from dive sites, and how tired your legs WON'T be when you do. Once you've completed the course, you'll be certified and able to rent scooters on your own.

Course Structure:

  • One 4 hour class/pool session
  • Two open water dives

Included:

  • Class room and pool
  • Two open water dives with an instructor
  • DPV, tanks, weights, dive flag and float

Not Included:

  • PADI Certification ($30.00)

Course is scheduled on a "As Needed" basis.
