Step 1: Your first step is to come to a couple “Class & Pool” sessions. Class and pool sessions are held here at the shop and are about 12-14 hours total. You will have some homework to complete before coming to your first class (a book to read and a video to watch). You can also complete ALL of your academics with PADI’s Online eLearning program.

Step 2: When you’ve completed your homework and “Class & Pool” sessions, you’re ready to dive! To complete your certification, your instructor will take you on four “Open Water Dives”, held over two days. These dives are simply an opportunity to show off the skills you learned in the pool. You can do your dives with us, or arrange your dives on your tropical vacation. It’s your choice!

There are two different formats from which to choose for completing the academics for your PADI Open Water Scuba Certification

Option 1 – Traditional Format:  Pick up your PADI Open Water Manual and DVD at Underwater Phantaseas complete the homework (approx. 10 to 12 hours). In class, your instructor will review the materials and administer four quizzes and a final exam.  Pool training will also be completed at this time. You are then ready to complete your Open Water Certification Dives!

Option 2 – Online eLearning Format:  Register and pay online with PADI to access the PADI Open Water Manual and DVD online. Complete all of the necessary academics at your convenience.  This format allows for greatly reduced time in the formal classroom setting.  Your instructor will complete your pool training and then you are ready to complete your Open Water Certification Dives.
