THANKSGIVING IN FIJI

About a 12 hour flight from the west coast of the USA lies a grouping of islands known for their pristine beauty, sandy beaches, and friendly atmosphere. A small island south of Viti Levu is home to the famous Bega Lagoon (pronounced ben-gaa) which is inside the crater of an extinct volcano. It harbors some of the most nutrient rich waters in the world teeming with marine life and massive varieties of soft corals. This diver's paradise is called Fiji and this trip will be an adventure you will never forget.

DATES:

Depart Denver Thursday, November 18th, 2010
Return to Denver Saturday, November 27th, 2010

ACCOMMODATIONS:

The Beqa Lagoon Resort combines unique Fijian architecture and exquisite furnishings to make the perfect setting for our 7 night stay. Your individual beach front "bure" is beautifully appointed and contains a spacious sitting room, tiled bathroom and expansive porch overlooking the lagoon. Meals are served in the " Blue Kalou" restaurant and bar with it's 80' thatched roof and built from local hardwoods. Combine this ambience with a world renown chef preparing fine cuisine using local fish, vegetables, fruits, shellfish, and Australian beef and you have found the idyllic setting for our Fijian vacation.

DIVING:

Our trip includes 5 days of diving in one of the most beautiful coral lagoons in the world. Dozens of superb coral heads, gorgonias, black coral trees, multi-hued crinoids, spectacular tunnels, and giant clams are but a few of the sights to be seen. Abundant marine life is everywhere with imperial angel fish, clowns, damsels, and barracuda mixed in with huge schools of batfish, amberjacks, shimmering silvers and trumpet fish. Large pelagics are everywhere including white & black tip sharks, eagle rays,  leopard rays, turtles, and mantas. There are over 600 varieties of fish found in the Pacific waters and you'll see almost all of them in Bega Lagoon. Skin Diver Magazine described this as "the Mecca of diving - one of the World's ultimate dive spots."

THINGS TO DO:

Beqa Island holds as many marvels and wonders as her lagoon. This mystical island whispers promises of tropical jungle explorations, hikes to a crystal waterfall and visits to native villages. Borrow an ocean paddle boat for an afternoon of coastline travel, or join a nearby village in a fish round-up. Experience unparalleled serenity as South Pacific breezes rock you gently in your hammock, or you stroll along the sands and discover beautiful exotic shells. Picnic on a nearby secluded island and snorkel slowly through warm turquoise waters as myriad rainbow-hued fish swim tranquilly below you.
