PADI ReActivate: Getting Back in the Water After Time Off

If it's been a year or two (or more) since your last dive, you're not alone. Life gets in the way, and scuba skills get rusty faster than most divers expect. PADI ReActivate is built for exactly this situation: it gets you current again without making you start certification from scratch.

Who ReActivate Is For

You're already a certified diver. Maybe you got your Open Water certification years ago and haven't been in the water since, or you're about to book a trip and want to feel confident before you're 40 feet down somewhere. ReActivate is a refresher, not a new certification, so it's faster and less involved than the course you originally took.

What the Course Covers

ReActivate has two parts. The first is a knowledge review you complete online through PADI's eLearning platform, made up of more than 20 short sections with videos and real dive scenarios. It usually takes two to four hours, and you can do it on your own schedule, even offline through the PADI app if you're traveling.

The second part is an in-water skills refresher with one of our instructors, covering the core skills from Open Water: mask removal and replacement, regulator recovery, emergency weight drop, fin pivot, and hovering. It's a chance to knock the rust off in a controlled setting instead of relearning everything on your first real dive back.

What You Get When You're Done

Once you've finished both parts, you'll get a replacement certification card showing a "ReActivated Thru" date. Your original certification doesn't expire, but many dive operators and trip leaders like to see recent water time before they'll take you out, especially after a long gap.

Why This Matters More If You Learned to Dive in Colorado

If you originally certified with us, your training dives happened in cold water at altitude, conditions that are more demanding than a lot of places divers travel to. That's a good foundation, but skills still fade with time away from the water. A refresher before a trip means you spend your vacation enjoying the dive instead of relearning your gear.

Ready to Get Back In?

We run PADI ReActivate courses right here in Lakewood, in our heated indoor pool, so you can knock off the rust without worrying about cold water while you're easing back in. Learn more about ReActivate or contact us to get scheduled.
