A scuba certification is one of the few gifts that is both an experience and a skill the person keeps for life. Once someone is certified, they can dive anywhere in the world for the rest of their life. The c-card does not expire.

We offer gift certificates for both full certification courses and our Discover Scuba experience, and they are some of our most popular purchases around the holidays, birthdays, and anniversaries.

Two options: full certification or Discover Scuba

Full Open Water certification

This is the complete course: online learning, pool sessions, and open water checkout dives. At the end, the recipient is a certified diver with a PADI c-card they can use anywhere.

This is the right gift for someone who has mentioned wanting to learn to dive, is planning a dive trip, or keeps showing up on your Instagram dive photos looking envious.

Full certification takes two to four weeks at a typical pace. The recipient schedules their sessions when it is convenient for them. They do not have to start immediately after receiving the gift.

Discover Scuba experience

This is a pool-only introduction to scuba with no certification required. The recipient spends about an hour breathing underwater with an instructor in a controlled pool environment. No homework, no checkout dives, no commitment.

This is the right gift for someone who is curious but not yet committed, someone who has expressed a little anxiety about scuba, or someone you want to introduce to diving before giving them the full course. A lot of people who do Discover Scuba come back for the full certification on their own.

We also offer a Discover Scuba Birthday Party for groups who want to do this together.

How gift certificates work

Call us at 303.988.6725 or stop into the shop at 160 S Union Blvd in Lakewood. We will set up a gift certificate for the amount of your choice or for a specific course.

The recipient contacts us to schedule their sessions when they are ready. Gift certificates do not expire in the short term, so there is no pressure to start immediately. If they are receiving it as a holiday gift and want to start in the spring, that is completely fine.

Who is this gift right for?

Scuba certification works well as a gift for:

  • Someone planning a trip to a dive destination (Cozumel, Belize, the Caribbean)
  • Someone who has said they always wanted to learn to dive and never done it
  • A teenager turning 10 or older who is comfortable in the water
  • A partner or spouse to get certified together (see our note on couples below)
  • Someone who enjoys outdoor adventure and has exhausted the obvious options

It is probably not the right gift for someone who has expressed a strong fear of water or who has never indicated any interest in diving. In that case, the Discover Scuba session is a lower-stakes way to introduce the idea.

Getting certified together

One of the most popular ways people use gift certificates is to get certified as a couple or with a friend. Taking the course together makes the pool sessions more fun and less nerve-wracking, and you finish with a built-in dive buddy for every trip afterward.

If you are buying for two people, ask about our group pricing. We offer discounts when multiple people sign up together. See our group certification page for details.

What the recipient gets

When the recipient completes the course, they receive:

  • A PADI Open Water Diver certification card (physical and digital)
  • Recognition in the PADI global diver registry
  • The ability to rent gear and dive to 60 feet anywhere in the world
  • A logbook entry for each of their checkout dives

The certification does not expire. They do not need to renew it. If they go years between dives, a quick refresher course (PADI ReActivate) is recommended to bring skills back up, but the underlying certification stays valid.
