Group Scuba Certification in Denver
Carolyn Bryan Jun 17, 2026
Getting certified with a group is one of the more fun things you can do in Denver. Whether it is a bachelorette party, a corporate team, a friend group that has been talking about learning to dive for years, or a family, the pool sessions are noticeably better when you are doing it alongside someone you know.
We accommodate group certifications regularly and can work around your schedule and group size. For the full picture of what the certification process involves, see our complete Denver scuba certification guide.
Who does group certification
Bachelorette parties and celebrations
Scuba certification has become a popular alternative to the standard bachelorette weekend. Instead of a bar crawl, you learn something together that you will actually remember and use. Some groups fly straight from their certification weekend to a dive destination for the honeymoon or a group trip.
We can accommodate groups of four to eight people for certification, with custom scheduling to keep the group together through pool sessions and checkout dives.
Corporate teams and company outings
Team certification works well as a company outing or an offsite activity. It involves real problem-solving, communication, and learning to trust the people next to you, which maps to work better than most team-building activities. It is also just genuinely enjoyable in a way that a ropes course often is not.
Groups can be scheduled on weekdays or weekends depending on availability. Contact us to discuss logistics for larger teams.
Families
Getting certified as a family is one of the better things you can do together. PADI certifies students as young as 10 years old, so parents and kids can go through the course at the same time.
Junior divers (ages 10 to 14) are actually required to dive with a certified adult anyway, which makes getting certified together practical as well as fun. You finish the course, and you can dive together anywhere in the world from that point forward.
See our scuba certification age guide for more on Junior diver certification.
Friend groups
The most common group certification we do. A few friends who have been saying "we should learn to dive" for the last several years finally pick a date and do it. Pool sessions are more relaxed when you are with familiar people. The checkout dives feel more like an adventure than a test. And you leave with dive buddies you already know and trust.
How group certification works
The course structure is the same for groups as for individual students: online coursework completed at home, followed by pool sessions, followed by open water checkout dives.
The difference with groups is scheduling. We work to keep your group together through the pool sessions and arrange a certification weekend at one of our three open water sites: Aurora Reservoir, The Crater at Homestead in Utah, or the Blue Hole in New Mexico.
Groups typically have a dedicated instructor or a small team of instructors depending on size. We keep student-to-instructor ratios reasonable so no one gets lost in the shuffle.
Group pricing
We offer group discounts for parties of four or more. The discount varies based on group size and scheduling. Contact us directly for a quote.
Standard individual certification runs $475 and up, plus the Open Water Dives. Group rates bring that cost down per person, and the savings increase with group size.
What to plan for
The timeline for group certification is the same as individual: plan for two to four weeks from start to finish at a comfortable pace. If your group is working toward a specific trip or event date, let us know when you inquire. We will help you map out a schedule that gets everyone certified in time.
A few logistical notes for groups:
- Everyone in the group needs to complete the online coursework before pool sessions begin
- Everyone fills out the standard medical questionnaire individually
- Checkout dives happen together as a group, which makes the weekend genuinely fun
- If your group chooses an out-of-town site like the Homestead Crater or Blue Hole, budget for travel and lodging
How to book a group
Call us at 303.988.6725 or email staff@uwphantaseas.com with your group size, a rough idea of your timeline, and any questions. We will put together a plan that fits your schedule and get you a group rate.
If your group wants to try it before committing to the full certification, we also offer Discover Scuba Birthday Parties and group Discover Scuba sessions in our pool. It is a low-stakes way to see whether everyone in the group is actually into it before anyone commits to the full course.
